Astigmatism

What is Astigmatism?

Astigmatism is a condition of the eye that is very common amongst 3 million Americans. It is a condition that cause an imperfect curvature of the eye. It creates a irregularly shape in the cornea of the eye preventing light to correctly focus on the retina, which causes blurry vision and many other symptoms such as:

  • eye strain
  • squinting (trying to see clearly)
  • eye discomfort
  • headaches

Treating astigmatism can be done by first booking a comprehensive eye exam. Then your eye doctor will distinguish and diagnose if astigmatism is present. There are a variety of treatment methods for astigmatism, including: corrective eye glasses, specially made eye contacts, and Lasik surgery. Another treatment option available is the non-invasive Orthokeratology. Which is a procedure also called ortho-k, that helps temporarily reshape the cornea to reduce refractive issues.
